Tennessee District 1 Congressional candidate Blair Walsingham has redirected her campaign resources toward supporting District 1 counties through the economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

“During our regular campaign meeting, my team and I just couldn't shake off the troubles affecting our community. Besides the virus, people are worried about their safety, how to pay their rent or mortgage and other bills, how to manage childcare, how to afford medical care, how to afford food. So we started brainstorming ways we can help people in this time of extensive need. We agreed to completely redirect our energy toward providing helpful resources and tools for the people of this district,” Walsingham said.

For each county in District 1, the campaign will create a database of local resources to assist people with various needs such as employment, finances, childcare, health, safety, food, and shelter. Walsingham’s team will disseminate this information through all available avenues. Where there are limited or no resources available, the campaign will identify and suggest meaningful actions individuals can take to address their concerns. Her team will also seek input from the community about the most pressing concerns they face and build an infrastructure for crowdsourcing solutions.

“In times like these, local communities must pull together to support and care for each other. We hope to facilitate a grassroots effort in partnership with local agencies and organizations to take meaningful positive action in response to this crisis. This is a time of great anxiety, but it can also be a time of great hope as we rediscover our shared humanity and learn to support and rely on each other again,” Walsingham said.
