Democratic Nominee Blair Walsingham Partners with Steady to deliver emergency cash assistance to local residents
Eidson, Tenn., October 2, 2020 -- Democratic nominee, Blair Walsingham (U.S. Congress, TN 1st District), is focused on the economy and jobs, but says that “even in the best of times, workers face challenges including multiple part-time jobs, unpredictable gig work, lack of healthcare, and limited help when they face unexpected expenses.” Walsingham says she’s not waiting to be elected to access opportunities for local residents, and has partnered with Steady, an app that makes it easier for workers to fill their income gaps, gain insights into their income, and improve their overall financial well-being. To date, over 2.1 million workers have registered as members with Steady, and 3.3 million have received relief funds.
Walsingham says that this partnership could provide thousands of working families in her district with job search, financial planning, and the healthcare resources they need. Additionally, 25 working families will qualify for emergency cash assistance of $1,680 over two months to help them through a specific hardship that they are facing right now. “We need the long term solutions to keep people working, and short term solutions to be a bridge,” says Walsingham.
A Representative from Steady said that so far they have had 81 people in the district qualify, but that only four have completed the survey so far. These four individuals have received their funds. To qualify for the grant, applicants must have been earning a monthly average income of $1,000 to $5,000, and have suffered a 50% drop of more in income in the most recent month of applying.
Walsingham states, “Part of good leadership is identifying opportunities. Steady is an entity separate from my campaign and I am not funding this either personally or through campaign funds. This collaboration is purely to help guide local workers to a resource to solve the challenges that accompany the freedom of working for yourself.” Walsingham’s campaign slogan is Health, Freedom & Financial Security.
