Press Release: Congressional Candidate, Blair Walsingham, TN-01, Shows Her Strength with Endorsements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE, BLAIR WALSINGHAM, TN-01, SHOWS HER STRENGTH WITH NEW ENDORSEMENTS

The candidate, previously endorsed by national and community organizations including one by former Presidential candidate, Andrew Yang, has three new endorsements this week

Eidson, TN. July 2, 2020 Blair Walsingham is riding a wave of endorsements that have propelled the political newcomer into the spotlight. Blair started her campaign as an unknown, joining a number of populist candidates to emerge since the 2016 elections. This week, she announces three new endorsements including the Washington County Young Democrats, Women of Color of the Tri-Cities, and Indivisible Greene County. Her candidacy has been selected for nomination to a national Indivisible endorsement.

Blair cites 139 years of Republican leadership in the 1st District as a compelling reason to vote for her. She says, “139 years, and what does East Tennessee have to show for it? Suicide rates are rising, and our communities are suffering from bankruptcy, poverty, and addiction. It’s time for a change, and the strength of this campaign shows that the people want a new type of leadership.”

Blair for Congress raised over $40,000 in the 2nd quarter, with 935 donations. “If you look at the Republican candidates, you will see hundreds of thousands of dollars raised from big donors, PAC’s and self financing, in one case to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars. Try as they might to position themselves as ‘average citizens’ I don’t think most East Tennesseans can relate to that type of candidate.”

Blair says she is best equipped to represent the district because she endures the same hardships faced by her constituents. “When I returned from my service in the Air Force, I struggled. A lot of people don’t know that health insurance is not guaranteed to veterans, and I did not qualify.” Blair also cites student loans for a now obsolete university, single motherhood, and small business ownership as other challenges she has faced along the way. Today, married and living on a farm with her husband and four children, she says failed expansion of broadband to rural Tennessee and an educational system unprepared to provide the individualized education needed by many children, are problems she hopes to solve.

“I know the challenge of running as a Democrat in this district, but I am not your typical Democrat. I don’t want to take away guns and I value life. I represent new solutions that use data to drive progress.” The candidate cites health, freedom and financial security as her three priorities when elected.

The Tennessee Democratic Primary will take place on August 6. While there are currently three Democrats on the ballot, Walsingham is the only candidate still in the race. Chris Rowe dropped out in May and endorsed Walsingham.
