Meet Blair Walsingham, Democratic nominee for U.S. House, Tennessee District 1
U.S. House District District 1 covers East Tennessee communities including Kingsport, Johnson City, Bristol and Gatlinburg.
Rep. Phil Roe has represented the area since 2009, but he decided not to seek re-election in 2020. The candidates in the open seat are Republican Diana Harshbarger of Kingsport, Democrat Blair Walsingham of Eidson and Independent Steve Holder of Johnson City.
The editors of the USA TODAY Network Tennessee sent a 10-question survey to the major party candidates.

Why are you running for this office?
I am running for office because poverty is crippling our communities across Tennessee. I've met families not only without internet access, but often with no running water or electricity. Third world problems have no place in America….
