TN Democratic Congressional Candidate Blair Walsingham Says A GOP Effort to Eliminate The Affordable Care Act During The Pandemic Is “Dangerous” And Could Cause Millions of Americans To Lose their Health Insurance
Eidson, TN. June 26, 2020 Democratic Congressional Candidate Blair Walsingham today called the latest decision by the U.S. Attorney General to have the U.S. Supreme Court end the Affordable Care Act a dangerous move that could mean millions of Americans lose their healthcare in the middle of the pandemic.
On Thursday, Attorney General William Barr filed motions to have the Supreme Court to declare the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional.
“If the Affordable Care Act is struck down, tens of millions of Americans will lose their health insurance and their protections for preexisting conditions right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Walsingham. “It’s a dangerous move that could have a devastating impact on the health of our nation.”
The legal briefs filed by the Justice Department are part of a case brought by 13 Rupublican states that are suing to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. In May President Trump said again that he supports the effort to terminate the ACA even though it could leave an estimated 27 million Americans without health insurance.
Blair Walsingham lives in Eidson, Tennessee, with her husband and four children. A veteran, who owns a small business, and her husband, a construction supervisor, are among the over 10% of Tennesseans without health insurance. She supports a plan to provide quality healthcare for all Americans by expanding and redesigning medicaid.
“The politicians have no problem giving themselves first class health insurance while working people struggle to pay for their healthcare,” Walsingham said. “We need a representative in Congress who understands the health needs of the people and who will champion access to affordable healthcare for everyone. That’s why I’m running.”
“The worst time to experiment with our healthcare system is in the middle of the pandemic. The ACA is far from perfect. But terminating it now, without a plan to replace it, is reckless.”
The Tennessee Democratic Primary will take place on August 6.
